The print and online resources below provide guidelines and examples for all sorts of
communication-related topics relevant to the sciences and engineering. If you know of any
good resources that should be included on this list but are not, please
e-mail us and
let us know.
ECE
Writing Resource Center - Although this site is specific to electrical and computer
engineering, its excellent suggestions and examples are useful for
any technical writer.
Resources
for Teaching Writing in Engineering and Science - Hosted by
Virginia Tech, this site contains a wealth strategies, resources,
and exercises for tech writing teachers (though students could
certainly benefit from this information too).
Computer
Science Publications Page - MSU's
computer science and engineering department has developed this page
as a repository of faculty- and student-authored documents as well as
a guide to lab report formats and the Turabian style manual.
Dave Custer's Technical
Writing Sites - Custer is an
instructor at MIT. This page has an incredible amount of useful
information, suggestions, and examples, as well as links to syllabi
for several of Custer's classes.
EPSCoR
Proposal for a Drop Test Facility
- This proposal is linked through Custer's site above. Though not
flawless, it provides several good topics for discussion on proposal
writing.
Engineering
Information Compendex Web -
This searchable database contains an enormous amount of abstracts
and downloadable articles devoted exclusively to engineering topics.
Strunk and White's The
Elements of Style - One
of the classic style and usage manuals. (It's also a genuinely funny
book.)
Technical
Communicator's Manual - This
extremely useful site was developed as part of the Technical
Communication Program in the Department of Civil Engineering at the
University of Texas-Austin.
