Curricular Integration

NOTE: We're currently updating this page. Please bear with us!

The Shackouls Technical Communication Program, through its Curricular Integration initiative, seeks to provide expertise and resources that will help engineering professors enhance the communication instruction in their classes and help students benefit from communication-intensive assignments. Described below are our major integrative efforts thus far:

Support for ECE Lab Teaching Assistants: Read the related conference paper!

ECE Senior Design Co-requirement with GE 3513 Technical Writing: Section 06 (TR 12:30) of Technical Writing is traditionally reserved for ECE students enrolled in ECE Senior Design I. In this section, we apply the same processes, analysis, and scrutiny to Senior Design deliverables (like problem statements, design constraints, and design presentations) as we do in standard sections of Technical Writing. Student course evaluations show highly enthusiastic responses to this co-requisite; informal faculty feedback indicates that the quality of Senior Design documents is improving as a result of this effort. ECE Lab Report Templates and Grading Support: For two new ECE courses, Intermediate and Advanced Electronic Circuits, we created templates for the midterm and final lab reports and devised rubrics to assist the professor and lab TAs with grading their students’ reports. We also provide further support by critiquing a sample of the lab TAs’ graded reports to make sure that their grading is accurate, consistent, and clear.
